The history of

 

prosperity missionary baptist church

1896-2020

One hundred and twenty-three years and hence, a group of spiritually minded men organized a church one-half mile east of the present building and named it Prosperity. The church moved one and one-twentieth mile North East of the present site. The church was located on the late India Walker's Farm.

 

The following spiritually-minded Christian men were appointed as officers of the Prosperity Baptist Church, Namely: Prof. N. B. Moore, chairman, Bro. George Posey, Bro. Jim Ross, Bro Gabel Coleman, Bro. Butter Watson and Bro. Watt Rogers. This group of members selected Rev. Moultry for their first pastor. He served from 1896-1902. Rev. Jim Miller was elected as the second pastor. He was a great evangelist.

Rev Jim Springer was the third pastor of the Prosperity Baptist Church. During this great minister's pastoral, the church bought the present site and rebuilt. The attendance was large. The church was spiritually alive. Rev. Miller was recalled to pastor the Prosperity Baptist Church and served a short time.

 

The fourth pastor was Rev. Willie Green. This great minister pastured for several years. He was a great minister. The church was spiritually alive. Many members were added to the church.

 

Rev. W. M. Hill was the fifth pastor. He was one of the leading ministers of the North Arkansas District Association.

 

In 1908 Rev. W. L. Petty of Memphis was elected as the sixth pastor of the Prosperity Church. He was a great minister. He pastured the entire community. All denominations cooperated. His wife was a great church worker. During that year of spiritually working together a church was built. Rev. Petty went from Prosperity Baptist Church to pastor a church in Jonesboro, Arkansas.

In 1909, Rev. Willie Green was elected the seventh pastor. This was Rev. Green's second time to pastor Prosperity Baptist Church. Rev. Green served for several years. He was called to pastor a church in Jonesboro, Arkansas. During the two terms Rev. Green served the church was progressive.

 

Rev. M. C. Bohannon was the eighth pastor. Rev. Bohannon was a splendid revivalist.

 

Rev. John Brazier was the ninth pastor.

 

The tenth pastor was Rev. I D. Jones of Marianna, Arkansas. He pastured from 1921 to 1924. A successful leader and a great revivalist was he. The church was spiritually alive.

The eleventh pastor was Rev. G. W. Pitts, moderator of the North Arkansas District Association. He pastured from 1924 it 1930. A great religious instructor was he. The church was very progressive.

 

The twelfth pastor was Rev. A. Harris. Rev. Harris was pastor from 1931 to 1932. The church was spiritually alive. Many members were added to the church.

The thirteenth pastor was Rev. Moore. He was pastor a part of 1932.

 

The fourteenth pastor was Rev. I. L. Pitts. Rev. Pitts was pastor from 1933 to 1040. His leadership was very successful numerically, financially and spiritually. A great leader was he.

 

The fifteenth pastor was Rev. E. L. Nelson; a great minister, timely, and full of information. He served for one year.

 

The sixteenth pastor was Rev Boaz. He served in 1945.

 

The seventeenth pastor was Rev. I. L. Pitts. He was reelected to pastor his second term as pastor from 19946 to 1947. He resigned at will. He was a wonderful minister.

 

The eighteenth pastor was Rev. W. L. James, Moderator of the North Arkansas District Association. He was a great spiritual leader. He served from 1947 to May 1953. He was pastor until God summoned him to join the Heavenly Band.

 

In July, 1953 Prosperity selected its nineteenth pastor, Rev. A. Crawford for its spiritual leader. Rev. Crawford served the church from 1953 to March 1985, a total of 32 years. The deacons that served under Rev Crawford were:

Much was accomplished during those 32 years, spiritually, financially and socially. July 3, 1955 a one-room Fellowship Hall was built. In 1962 -1963 a new church was built. A good financial foundation was built under the leadership of Rev. Crawford. God called Rev. Crawford home.

 

Prosperity elected its twentieth pastor. Rev. Gus. Dixon. The church was bricked and the floor was carpeted. New members were added and financial growth continued. Deacons served under Rev. Dixon were:

With the humble submission and free will resignation of Rev. Dixon, Prosperity elected its 21st Pastor, Rev. Lonzo Gatlin. He was a great religious teacher. The Fellowship Building and Baptizing Tub were added to the church.

Rev. Gatlin Resigned.

 

Rev. Kenneth Lofton was elected the twenty-second pastor. Three deacons were crowned under Rev. Lofton’s leadership:

Bro Sherman White was appointed as Trustee

 

Rev. Lofton resigned as pastor on June 28, 1998. Rev. O. B. Brown was appointed to oversee the pulpit until Prosperity selected its23rd pastor, Rev. Uzziah Duncan, November 27, 1998. Under the leadership of Rev. Duncan, this new church was built, completed March 11, 2000. Rev. Duncan became moderator of the North Arkansas District Association. Deacons served under Rev. Duncan:

Rev. Sanders humbly submitted his resignation on January 21, 2011.

 

God sent Prosperity its 25th pastor, Rev. Vernon Faulkner, past Moderator of the North Arkansas District Association, June 25, 2011. Under Rev Faulkner’s leadership, the church mortgage was paid off in full and a church van was purchased and paid off in full.  Rev Faulkner was a great supporter of the Youth Ministry here at Prosperity. Prosperity selected its twenty-sixth pastor, Associate Pastor Alvin Taggart, on December 5, 2015. Deacons/Trustees serving under Rev Taggart:

On October 10, 2016, a Vintage C3 Hammond Organ, Bench, and Leslie Speaker were gifted to the Church by Sis Ernestine Russell.

 

New members have been added under Rev Taggart’s leadership. August 2017 a new Metal Roof was installed on the Church, and after many years in process, By-Laws of the Prosperity M. B. Church were established.

 

Rev Taggart is a great leader, teacher, and Man of God. Since becoming Pastor, Rev Taggart received his Doctorate of Ministry in Christian Counseling on May 28, 2018. We are looking forward to supporting and cooperating with Pastor Taggart. We are asking that God’s Benediction be with him.

In August 2020, Prosperity Missionary Baptist Church obtained its first online website, www.prosperitymbc.org. The website was designed by Data Diva Designs, a website company owned and operated by former member, Crenisha Wright. The website was created to keep members and guests updated on church information and offers an alternative way to pay tithes and offering online via a PayPal link prosperitychurch224@gmail.com or 870-633-6034 that directs funds to the church.
